Fideo Proggis
Fideocam is an automated video capture system designed to provide video content for web-based community services. It is now possible for ski resorts to guarantee a lasting memory imprint with fully personalized video content. By relying on intelligent automation high-quality content production can be achieved cost-efficiently.

The first deployments were used in ski centers, but the modular structure of the solution allows applications to serve all areas of interest. Extreme sports are especially well suited for the service, but the creative concept is embraced by the end-users whichever the sport. As community achieves the required critical mass network effects raise the service's added-value.

Fideocam Installation - Shoot and Forget

Fideocam is a pre-packaged solution of software and hardware for automated video content production. Fideocam solution consists of four components: Core, Publisher, Configure and Community. Content produced on-site (Core) is pushed (Publisher) to a central media server (Community), which acts as the access point for web or mobile users. The central media server includes community services, such as discussion groups and voting for the best stunts. Ready-made modules and user friendly configuration screens make it possible to take Fideocam into use in a very short period of time. Once installed Fideocam system requires only minimal human interaction. It is designed to function standalone and can self-recover from most failures - e.g, in case of a power or network failure it automatically connects online as soon as possible. Because of this standalone nature of a Fideocam solution, only annual maintenance is required in the beginning of each season.

Fideo Configure

A Fideo project includes five stages, the descriptions of which you can find below:

1. Inspection

We start by inspecting the site and its special characteristics, e.g., locations of the kickers & rails, lighting conditions, security issues, and availability of electricity and network connections. Usually, the solution can be setup with little or no modifications to the existing environment.

2. Installation

Cameras, cabling, and the on-site server (including the software) are installed. Hardware part of a Fideocam solution is installed by a video surveillance specialist and using tested components (weather-proof cameras etc.). After the hardware is in place, the software can be configured and tested. Most of the configuration is done using graphically by creating flows that contain the logic for capturing and editing (e.g. effects) of the video material.

3. Production

When the on-site components are in place, production can start. In the production stage, Fideocam system requires only minimal human interaction. It is designed to be standalone and can self-recover from most failures - e.g, in case of a power or network failure it automatically connects online as soon as possible. Most of the actions that do require human intervention can be done remotely.

4. Distribution

On-site server is configured to distribute the content to a central media server, which acts as the access point for web or mobile users (e.g. http://fideo.proggis.com or a customer's site). If the content is pushed to mobile terminals through MMS, the central server acts as the gateway to operators' networks. An on-site server can also act as a Bluetooth Hotspot for wireless content distribution locally.

The central media server includes server-side logic for content distribution & adaptation, content personalization, user management, and community services.

5. Maintenance

Because of the standalone nature of a Fideocam solution, only annual maintenance is required in the beginning of each season. Maintenance can also be done by local partners.

For season 2005-2006 we implemented Finland's first automated video service with SerenaSki ski center in Espoo.

The goal was to capture content from a kicker at the bottom of the street slope.

Camera was positioned on the top of the ski lift hut.

Customers were informed of the service in operation with signs on the wall.

Riders were able to publish videos of their own stunts on the ski centers website by using SMS payment.
